Ushakov : Russia’s fundamental stance on the Crisis in Syria is unchangeable

MOSCOW,(S)-Russia’s fundamental stance on the Syrian issue is unchangeable, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aide Yury Ushakov said.

“The Russian stance on Syria is a fundamental one, it can have some peculiarities taking into account the situation development but the pillars of this stance remain the same,” Ushakov told reporters at a briefing ,according to  Voice of Russia, RIA, Interfax.

Ushakov said that the Syrian issue was on the agenda of Putin’s talks with various foreign leaders, in particular, during the visit of British Prime Minister David Cameron to Russia.

“The contact went interestingly, many useful ideas have been proposed. Then Cameron went to Washington and called Putin after the visit to Washington and they continued contacts, in particular, on Syria, taking into account his (Cameron’s) talk with (U.S. President) Obama,” Ushakov said.

Thus, active work ahead of the Geneva conference on Syria is underway, Ushakov said. Ushakov failed to elaborate on the timeline of this conference. Putin’s aide said that the list of the conference participants was currently being formed. “Russia is in contact with direct regional neighbors and other interested parties and with forces involved in the confrontation in Syria itself. This process is developing actively, including in the Russian-U.S. context,” Ushakov said.

Ushakov said that the Russian president had recently had a very busy schedule of talks with his foreign colleagues. In particular, Putin met and had telephone conversations in May with leaders of many countries, including Japan, Egypt,”Israel”, the United States, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, South Africa and Italy.

“Syria was one of the main topics with all of them,” Ushakov said.
