US Procedure against Jaafari Comes after his Success in Uncovering Reality of Syria Events to World, US Public Opinion

WASHINGTON, (ST) – The US State Department announced on Wednesday that Washington has decided to restrict the movement of Syria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari within 40 km around New York; a step indicating Washington’s fear from the success the Syrian diplomacy has achieved in explaining the reality of what is going on in Syria and in uncovering elements of the terrorist Wahhabi conspiracy hatched against Syria to the world and the US public opinion.

The US procedure raises questions on the justifications and the timing of the decision, particularly because, al-Jaafri is Syria’s ambassador in the international organization not in Washington. Thus any procedure of this kind is entitled to the United Nations.

The decision was announced by US State Department Spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki.

Washington doesn’t have the right to restrict the work of the diplomatic missions of UN member countries though it is hosting the UN Headquarter and if it has any justifications relating to sovereignty so let it provide enough proofs.

Psaki wanted to give legitimacy to the decision by saying that similar procedures were adopted against representatives of Iran and Democratic Korea on which international sanctions are imposed, but this is not applicable to Syria who is not subjected to any international sanctions, but only to illegitimate unilateral sanctions imposed by Western countries, including the United States, outside the United Nations’ umbrella.

The timing of the decision is also suspicious, because the procedure is adopted at a time when the last elements of the global conspiracy against Syria are being uncovered, the enemy’s front is being dismantled, the Syrian Army is gaining more successes on ground against terrorists and the Syrian institutions are recovering.

The new US move indicates Washington’s bankruptcy and failure to take any effective procedure against the Syrian economy or diplomacy after it repeatedly tried to isolate Syria over the past years.

What the US is doing today repeats steps taken by the George Bush administration which pulled back its ambassador from Damascus in 2005 to pressure Syria for its resistance supporting stances and for its rejection of the American occupation of Iraq.
