US presence in Jordan to ‘deepen crisis in Syria’ –says Lukashevich

Russia’s foreign office spokesman has warned the US against increasing its military presence in Jordan and said the deployment of American troops to the Jordan-Syria border could potentially fan the ongoing regional crisis.

 “These actions will only deepen the crisis in Syria, which already has catastrophic dimensions,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said at the Friday press meeting ,according to Voice of Russia, RIA

A contingent of 200 US troops, including intelligence agents, logistics and military operation experts, is expected to be transferred to Jordan in the light of the escalating Syrian war.

 Newspapers said earlier that the US Intelligence Agency was already running a covert program in Jordan to train Syrian rebels.

Mr. Lukashevich stressed that Russia had on various occasions drawn the world’s attention to confirmed reports about US training militants in the countries bordering on Syria.
