US Not in a Position to Assess Countries’ Human Rights Status, Says Qasemi

Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Saturday that the US administration is not in a position to measure the status and terms of human rights in other countries.

Qasemi made the remarks while responding to the 2016 human rights report issued by the US Department of State on Friday. The report accused Iran in several cases of human rights violation.

‘With its dark human rights record both inside the country and at the international level, the US administration is not in a position to comment on human rights status in other countries,” Qasemi said.

‘No international institution or body has permitted the US to measure human rights status in other countries,’ the spokesman added.

He said, “The US administration, under no circumstances, should make one-sided and politically motivated judgments,’ about other countries human rights situation.

‘US recent move to ban entry of Muslims to the United Sates and causing problems for Muslim families residing in that country should itself be regarded a case of human rights violation by the US administration,’ Qasemi stressed referring to the US President Donald Trump’s executive order in January which bans entry to US of nationals of several Muslim countries including Iran.

Describing the move as an ‘act of intervention,” Qasemi said, ‘By raising such accusations against other countries, the US is to cover up its domestic human rights problems and deviate the world public opinions from its supports for a certain number of its allies in the region which have a dark human rights record and their war criminals in some of the regional countries are clear to everyone,’ Qasemi said.
