A group of US Democratic lawmakers criticized the administration of US President Joe Biden for launching a joint aggression with Britain on Yemen, stressing that this violates the Constitution.
“This is an unacceptable violation of the U.S. Constitution. Article 1 clearly requires congressional approval of any military action,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who chairs the Progressive Caucus, wrote in a post on social media.
Representative Cory Bush said: “President Biden is not authorized to conduct airstrikes without consulting Congress, which is illegal and contrary to the Constitution. People here don’t want another war spent with U.S. taxpayer money to kill civilians. Stop the bombing.”
Rep. Ro Khanna said: “Biden should have gone to Congress before striking Yemen and getting involved in another middle east conflict.”
Representative Mark Pocan also called on the White House to work with Congress, writing in a post: “the United States cannot risk getting involved in another conflict without congressional authorization”.
US and British aircraft launched an aggression on Yemen at dawn today, targeting the capital Sanaa and several other provinces.
