Washington (ST): The majority of members of the US House of Representatives voted in favor of removing Speaker of the House, Republican Member Kevin McCarthy, during a vote on a proposal submitted by Republican Representative Matt Gates to remove McCarthy.
Reuters reported that McCarthy’s dismissal came against the backdrop of his acceptance of a temporary plan to fund the US federal government for a period of 45 days to avoid its closure.
The vote was 216 to 210 in favor of removing McCarthy, making it the first time that members of the House of Representatives have removed the Speaker of the House.
It is noteworthy that Representative Matt Gates led the initiative to dismiss McCarthy due to his dissatisfaction with McCarthy’s settlement with the Democrats, and McCarthy was also accused of negotiating a “secret deal” with US President Joe Biden regarding financing Ukraine.
