US has no option but to stop lawbreaking after defeat of pressure policy: Iran

Iran’s administration says the United States has been left with no choice but to end its law-breaking policies “in the very near future” given the failure of Washington’s so-called maximum pressure campaign in the face of the Iranian nation’s resistance.

Ali Rabiei, the administration’s spokesman, made the remarks at a media briefing in Tehran on Tuesday, as the parties to the 2015 nuclear deal are preparing to meet in Vienna later in the day to discuss the future of the multilateral agreement, officially named the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Press TV reported.

“On Tuesday, we will be witnessing a new chapter in the process of defeating coercion and resurrecting the JCPOA,” he said.

“As we predicted at the height of bullying and pressure by [former US president Donald] Trump’s regime, the US — now disappointed with the previous wrong path — will eventually confess that ‘maximum pressure’ has failed, and that there is no choice but to revive the JCPOA and get all parties return to their commitments.”

He added, “Today, we say with confidence that in the very near future, the US administration has no option but to terminate its law-breaking behaviors. Unilateral sanctions as well as violations of international agreements and regulations will also end. The Vienna meeting, which will take place today, is an opportunity for all sides to exchange views on how and when to return to the JCPOA obligations.”

Iran to accept nothing but ‘verifiable’ removal of US bans

On Monday, an informed source close to the Iranian negotiating team told Press TV ahead of Tuesday talks said that the United States has no other choice but to remove all anti-Iran sanctions in a verifiable way.

The source said Washington’s response to Iran’s unilateral commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action is nothing but a unilateral move to remove all the sanctions.

“Tehran will not accept any outcome of the Vienna meeting other than the removal of all sanctions,” the source said.

The source said the Iranian team’s agenda in the Vienna talks is clear. “Iran will start its measures to return to JCPOA commitments only after the removal of all US sanctions and verifying it.”

“Robert Malley will have to leave Vienna empty-handed if the Tuesday meeting would result in anything other than the removal of all US sanctions,” the source added, referring to the US president’s special envoy for Iran who is expected to attend the Vienna talks.

The comments came as Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Seyyed Abbas Araqchi has arrived in the Austrian capital for talks with the P4+1 (Russia, China, Britain, France, and Germany) on the US return to the 2015 nuclear deal, which was abandoned by the former US president in 2018.

Lifting all US cruel sanctions on Iran to top Vienna meeting’s agenda: Iranian Foreign Ministry

On his part, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh stressed that the main goal of Tuesday’s meeting between Iran other signatories to a landmark nuclear deal, concluded by Tehran and world powers in 2015, is the removal of all US sanctions in a single step.

“The agenda of this joint commission meeting in Vienna is the removal of all US cruel sanctions against Iran, and in other words, clarification of how parties to the deal should fulfill their commitments,” the Ministry spokesman said.

“The path is clear. All US sanctions against Iran must be removed at once. Then this measure must be verified [by Tehran] and only then, the Islamic Republic will take its step to return to full commitments under the nuclear deal,” the spokesman said.
