MOSCOW, (ST)- Russian President Vladimir Putin has stressed that the process of fighting terrorism in Syria will continue until terrorist organizations are completely eliminated.
In a press conference on Wednesday after his talks with President of the Turkish regime Recep Tayyib Erdogan, Putin said the presence of US troops in Syria is illegal and that the withdrawal of US forces from Syria, if it happens, will become a positive step and will stabilize the situation in the country.
About his talks with Erdogan, Putin said “we discussed prospects of political settlement of the crisis in Syria..Our stance is firm in this regard and we have to work in accordance with the international Resolution 2254 and on the basis of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Putin added that the talks also dealt with Sochi deal on Idleb, stressing that keeping the agreement and halting combat operations must not be at the expense of the process of fighting terrorism.
He also said that the Russian foreign ministry will hold talks with western partners on the committee in charge of discussing the Syrian constitution.
Putin pointed out that presidents of the the guarantor states of Astana process on Syria (Russia, Iran and Turkey) will hold a summit in Russia soon.
