US decision to provide Ukraine with sophisticated weapons increases risk of direct confrontation between Washington and Moscow

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov on Wednesday stressed that providing weapons to Ukraine by the United States under whatever justifications increases the risk of a direct confrontation between Russia and the United States.

In a statement to Sputnik on Wednesday, Ryabkov said that “for many years, the United States has done nothing to find a solution to the Ukrainian attacks. It was precisely the same for many years before the beginning of the special military operation, but now Washington is trying to do everything to inflict a strategic defeat upon Russia”.

 Ryabkov remarks came after the US administration decided to supply advanced rocket systems and munitions to Ukraine, including High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), a multiple rocket launcher that can strike with precision at long-range targets.
