US Administration Pledges $5 million Donation to So-Called “White Helmets” in Syria

US President Donald Trump’s administration is doubling down on backing the so-called “White Helmets”, an alleged “defense group” with controversial activity in terrorist-held areas of Syria, pledging a $5 million donation at a conference.

According to RT, the contribution was announced by ambassador James Jeffrey, US special envoy to the US-led coalition, purportedly against Daesh (ISIS, IS or ISIL), at the so-called “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region” conference, held in Brussels.

 The $5 million will fund the White Helmets operations in Syria and the work of the so-called International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM), RT said.

Facts on ground have proved that the “White Helmets” group has close connection to terrorist groups in Syria, mainly Jabhat al-Nusra, and it has been involved in staging alleged chemical attacks in order to provide pretexts for US military intervention in Syria.

Evidence of White Helmet involvement with anti-government militants and other abuses, such as organ harvesting and endangering children, was presented to the UN in December.

Though the Trump administration announced it would stop funding the White Helmets back in May 2018, it reversed course just a month later, sending $6.8 million to the group.

Syria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva Hussam Eddin Alaa underscored on Wednesday that the United States and Britain have created and funded the so-called “White Helmets” group to be used as an alleged “humanitarian arm” serving the terrorist organizations in Syria, mainly Jabhat al-Nusra, and as an agent on ground serving the intelligence bodies of the countries that created them.

Washington and London have made the “White Helmets” a main tool in the disinformation campaign they launched against Syria and a source for fabrications and accusations relating to the alleged use of chemical weapons in terrorist-held areas, he added.
