New York – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif said the first step to be taken to solve the crisis in Syria is to fight with terrorism and uproot it, according to IRNA.
Zarif made the remarks in a meeting with his Greek counterpart Nikos Kotzias.
The meeting was held on Tuesday in New York, the US, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
The two stressed importance of developing Tehran-Athens cooperation on Syria.
Zarif further rejected attaching any pre-condition to stop the crisis in Syria.
Only fighting with terrorism and formation of a national unity government can help settlement in Syria, Zarif noted.
The Greek foreign minister, too, stressed the two sides’ support for each other in the international arenas.
He further expressed sympathy with the families of victims in the Thursday Mina tragic incident which claimed lives of 239 Iranian pilgrims.
Illogical conditions prolong crisis in Syria – Zarif
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif said laying illogical conditions will protract finding a solution to the crisis in Syria.
‘End of clashes and reaching a fair solution and sustainable peace in Syria are tied to formation of a comprehensive transitional government with the participation of all concerned parties as well as avoiding illogical pre-conditions which can prolong the crisis,’ Zarif told her Croatian counterpart Vensa Pusic on Tuesday.
During their meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Pusic welcomed the nuclear deal between Iran and P5+1 group of world powers reached in July.
Referring to the Syrian refugees and its impact on the European countries including Croatia, she said the crisis can influence the seriousness of the European states for the settlement of the crisis in Syria through political and peaceful means.
Both sides supported expansion of bilateral ties in economic, cultural, tourism, medical, and transport fields and stressed mutual support in international forums.
They also welcomed exchange of diplomatic and trade delegations.
