UNSC Fails to Adopt Russia-Drafted Resolution Condemning Syria Strike

THE UNITED NATIONS- The United Nations Security Council did not approve on Saturday the Russia-drafted resolution that condemns air strikes launched by the United States and its allies against Syria.

Three countries – Russia, China and Bolivia – voted in favor of the resolution. Eight countries (including the Unites States, the United Kingdom and France that were delivering strikes on Syria) voted against the document. Four more countries, including Kazakhstan, abstained, according to Itar Tass.

Earlier, Russia submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council denouncing a missile strike by the United States and its allies against Syria and demanding that they immediately stop their aggression against the country.

Russia’s Permanent Envoy at the UN Vasily Nevenzya said the missile strikes are aggravating the humanitarian situation and provoking a new wave of refugees, he said.

The diplomat made this statement at an emergency session of the UN Security Council convened on Russia’s demand to discuss the missile strikes delivered by the United States, Britain and France against Syria.

“By its actions, the US is increasingly aggravating the humanitarian catastrophe in Syria, bringing sufferings to civilians and actually conniving at terrorists who have been tormenting the Syrian people for seven years and provoking a new wave of refugees from that country and the region as a whole,” Nebenzya stressed.
