UNSC calls for an immediate and independent investigation into the mass graves discovered in Gaza Strip

Members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Saturday expressed their deep concern over the discovery of mass graves in and around the Nasser and Al Shifa medical facilities in Gaza Strip, where several hundred bodies, including women, children and older persons, were buried.

In a statement, the Council members underlined the need for accountability for violations of international law and called for investigators to be allowed unimpeded access to all locations of mass graves in Gaza to conduct immediate, independent, thorough, comprehensive, transparent and impartial investigation to reveal the circumstances behind the graves.

They reaffirmed the importance of allowing families to know the fate and whereabouts of their missing relatives, consistent with international humanitarian law.

Earlier, the UN Chief Antonio Guterres called for immediately allowing international investigators to visit the mass graves sites to reveal facts about the killing of hundreds of Palestinians.

Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya also called for an independent investigation into the recently discovered mass graves in Gaza Strip.
