Occupied Al-Quds (ST) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) indicated that the number of displaced people that took refuge in its centers in the central and southern areas of Gaza Strip to escape the ongoing Israeli aggression reached more than four times their capacity.
UNRWA stated that the average number of the displaced people in UNRWA shelters located in the central and southern regions is more than 12,000.
“The total number of displaced people taking refuge in 155 of its facilities reached about 1.4 million displaced people,” UNRWA stated, noting “about 400,000 other people live near these shelters and receive the services provided by UNRWA.”
UNRWA indicated that about 60 of its facilities have been exposed to direct damage and 68 other facilities have suffered collateral damage since the 7th of last October.
It noted that the initial estimates indicated that at least 314 displaced person who were seeking refuge in its centers were killed, in addition to the injury of 1129 others.
With the continued violent Israeli bombing of Gaza, about 1.9 out of 2.3 million Palestinians residing in the Strip were forced to leave their homes, according to the government media office.
