UNRWA warns of the increasing number of people infected with infectious diseases in Gaza

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees UNRWA warned that the number of people suffering from infectious diseases is increasing in the Gaza Strip, according to reports from the World Health Organization.

UNRWA said in its account on the X platform: “World Health Organization reports indicate that the number of people infected with infectious diseases, including diarrhea and hepatitis, is on the rise in Gaza.” UNRWA  indicated that it “continues to provide health care, but the overcrowded shelters and limited sanitation due to forced displacement pose severe health risks to the people of Gaza.”

UNRWA stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire to address the worsening health crisis in the Strip.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned last April of the worsening of the already serious sewage crisis as the summer season is approaching amidst the collapse of the sewage treatment system.

The residents of Gaza suffer from mosquitoes, rodents, garbage accumulation, and sewage leakage, in addition to the decomposing bodies under the rubble without the ablity to recover them in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression since the seventh of last October.
