The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has urgently requested $104 million to enable its multi-sectoral humanitarian response over the next 90 days in the devastated and besieged Gaza Strip.
The agency stated that this money will cover the funds required to meet urgent food, non-food, health, shelter and protection needs of up to 250,000 Gazans seeking safety in UNRWA shelters in Gaza Strip, in addition to 250,000 Palestinian refugees in it.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said: “Aid to civilians who have nowhere to flee must be immediate, and here I mean water, food and medicine.”
He added: “It is extremely urgent to ensure that humanitarian aid and protection reach all civilians.”
He appealed to donors and agency partners to increase their financial support.
UNRWA announced that 12 of its employees were killed in the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip for the sixth day, and a number of its schools, shelter centers and health centers were damaged.
UNRWA warned that basic supplies, including fuel, would soon run out as a result of the Israeli siege imposed on Gaza Strip.
