UNRWA Commissioner-General: humanitarian ceasefire needed in Gaza to ensure aid flow

Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini warned that the agency will not be able to complete its work without providing fuel to the Gaza Strip.

“The small number of lorries that have entered the Gaza Strip will not make a difference. We have to ensure a humanitarian ceasefire to ensure a continuous flow of aid,”Lazzarini said during a press conference today.

The Commissioner-General stressed that the Gaza Strip is on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe and that there is a risk of a near outbreak of disease, indicating that 57 of the agency’s workers have died as a result of the shelling in Gaza.
