The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) announced the temporary closure of its office complex in Occupied Al-Quds (Jerusalem) after Israeli settlers attacked it and tried to burn it down twice.
AFP quoted the agency’s Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini as saying on the X-platform: “Israeli settlers set fire to the UNRWA headquarters in Occupied Al-Quds twice yesterday evening, and the lives of the staff of UNRWA and other UN agencies in the compound were seriously endangered, and the fire caused serious damage.”
Lazzarini added: “a crowd was seen with armed men outside the compound chanting “burn the United Nations” and this is a terrible development, so a decision was made to close the compound until security was recognized.”
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned today the Israeli settlers ‘ attack on the UNRWA headquarters, stressing that it comes as part of the large-scale crimes committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people and the systematic targeting of institutions that contribute to the steadfastness of the Palestinians until they restore their rights, mainly “UNRWA”, which works in an unparalleled way in Gaza Strip to protect the Palestinians from the deliberate famine committed by the occupation there.
