United Nations reaffirms the sovereignty of the Syrians in occupied Golan and the Palestinians in occupied Palestine over their natural resources

New York (ST) – The United Nations General Assembly renewed its adoption of a resolution affirming the permanent sovereignty of the Syrians in the occupied Syrian Golan and the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territories over their natural resources.

The Assembly adopted the annual resolution entitled Permanent Sovereignty of the Palestinian People in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Al-Quds, as well as the Syrians in the Occupied Syrian Golan over their Natural Resources with a majority of 159 countries, with six countries and the Israeli occupation entity opposing it, while 11 countries abstained from voting.

The resolution referred to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the legal consequences of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, which affirms that the continued Israeli presence in the Palestinian territories is illegal and that Israel must end this occupation as soon as possible.

The resolution reaffirmed the inalienable rights of the Syrians in the occupied Syrian Golan and the Palestinian people to their natural resources, including land, water and energy resources.

The United Nations indicated in its resolution its deep concern over Israel’s exploitation of Palestinian natural resources, the destruction it is causing to Palestinian land and agriculture, especially in the Gaza Strip, as well as the harmful effects of illegal settlements on all forms of Palestinian life.

In turn, the Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, stressed that this overwhelming vote in favor of the resolution confirms once again the international community’s support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including their sovereign right to their natural resources.

Mansour expressed his deep gratitude to the countries that voted in favor of this resolution, which sends a strong message that all the atrocities and measures committed by the occupation in the Palestinian territories are condemned by the world and by international law.
