The UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen today condemned “the repeated and increasing Israeli military escalation in Syria,” including airstrikes that have killed civilians.
The UN News Centre quoted Pedersen as saying in a press release that “these actions undermine efforts to build a new Syria that enjoys peace internally and with its neighbors in the region, and further destabilize Syria at a critical time.”
The UN Special Envoy called on Israel to cease these attacks, which could amount to serious violations of international law, respect Syria’s sovereignty and existing agreements, and cease unilateral actions on the ground.
The Special Envoy urged all parties to prioritize diplomatic solutions and dialogue to address security concerns and prevent further escalation.
