United Nations calls for an end to the Israeli military presence in the buffer zone on Syrian territory.
The United Nations has called on the Israeli occupation entity to end its military presence in the “buffer zone” between Syria and the occupied Syrian Golan and to respect the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
In an exclusive interview with China’s CCTV at the UN headquarters in New York, aired yesterday, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, said : “The Disengagement Agreement between the Syrian Arab Republic and Israel, which dates back to 1974, must be respected and implemented. Ultimately, what we want and what our mission in the region requires is to maintain peace and stability there.”
He added, “The presence of Israeli forces in what is known as the disengagement zone is temporary, according to several hints and indications we have received from our Israeli counterparts on multiple occasions. Naturally, we hope that this presence will come to an end at some point.”
” According to the agreement and the UN Security Council resolution, military presence in this zone is limited to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF). “He indicated.
UN Assistant Secretary-General said “Therefore, our goal is evidently to restore the previous status quo in full accordance with Security Council resolutions.”
Lacroix’s remarks came after the Israeli occupation’s Defense Minister, Yisrael Katz, said last Tuesday that his forces are “prepared to remain in Syria indefinitely until it is ensured that the entire buffer zone is completely demilitarized.”
