UNICEF: Gaza Strip is the most dangerous place in the world for children

Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) Ted Shiban has stressed that Gaza Strip is the most dangerous place in the world for children.

In a TV interview, Shiban said that 80 perecent of Gaza population has been displced and that the war has affected all children in this region.

Fir his part, UNICEF’s spokesman James Elder said that the “safe zones” announced by the Israeli occupation can never be safe or humanitarian.

It is “foolish to pretend that there is a safe place for people to take as a shelter in Gaza Strip,” Elder clarified, stressing that food, water, medicine and shelter cannot be guaranteed in the zones that are said to be safe.

Regional Director of UNICEF for the Middle East and North Africa Adele Khader also affirmed that Gaza Strip is the most dangerous place in the world for children, as reports indicate that dozens of children are killed and injured daily. She noted that entire neighborhoods, where children used to play and go to school, have turned into piles of rubble.

“About a million children have been forcibly displaced from their homes and are now being pushed more and more towards the south of Gaza Strip into small, crowded areas without water, food or protection, which exposes them to an increasing risk of respiratory infections and water-borne diseases, and also exposes their lives to further threats due to drought, malnutrition and disease,” Khader said.
