UNICEF calls for protecting Palestinian children in Gaza in accordance with international humanitarian law

The Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF, Catherine Russell, called for ensuring the protection and support of Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip in accordance with international humanitarian law.

She noted that the intermittent opening of Gaza crossings to shipments of humanitarian supplies is insufficient to meet the enormously increasing needs.

In a statement reported by Wafa News Agency Wednesday, Russell pointed out that the grave violations committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian children during the ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip since the seventh of last month have included killing and attacks on schools and hospitals, as well as preventing the arrival of humanitarian aid

The UN official said that what she saw and heard in Gaza was heartbreaking because there is no safe place for children, whose number reaches up to a million.”

The ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip since October the 7th has resulted in 11,320 martyrs, including 4,650 children and 3,145 women in an infinite toll.
