UNICEF begin providing water treatment kits for 10 million people in Syria

Amman,(ST)- UNICEF said on Monday, it began the a large-scale process in Syria aims to ensure the supply of safe drinking water to more than 10 million people, or about half the Syrian population.

On Sunday Four trucks crossed the Jordanian border  carrying 80 tons of sodium hypochlorite supplies for water treatment. Heading specifically to Homs, Aleppo, Hama and Idlib. In the coming weeks, UNICEF will deliver 1,000 metric tons of chlorine to the cities and communities in all parts of the 14 Syrian governorates

Mr. Yousef Abdul Jalil, UNICEF Representative in Syria said: “The timing of this process is very important in light of the sharp decline in the supply of chlorine in Syria and that caused the scarcity of safe water, which could expose the population – especially children – of diarrhea and other diseases transmitted through water

This distribution is being carried out  with the coordination of technical sections in the Ministry of Water Resources and the Syrian Red Crescent.
