The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) confirmed today, Tuesday, that there are no plans to close the Azraq and Zaatari camps for Syrian refugees in Jordan.
The “Al-Mamlaka” channel reported that the commission stated in a post that global funding levels for the commission are lower compared to previous years. As a result, some programs may be reduced, and some changes may be made to the way services are provided in most countries where the commission operates, including Jordan.
The commission continued: “While we recognize that this decrease in funding affects the services we can provide to refugees in Jordan this year and beyond, at the moment, we do not have final information regarding these changes.”
The commission expressed its understanding of the difficulties in managing such situations, noting that all of its services are free of charge.
Earlier, the commission reported that 55,732 registered Syrian refugees have voluntarily returned from Jordan to Syria since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, 2024, until April 12, 2025.
