UNHCR: $43 Million to Support Syrians in Jordan in January

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that donors provided approximately $43 million in January 2025 to support Syrian refugees in Jordan The “Al-Mamlaka” channel quoted the UNHCR as saying that many Syrian refugees in Jordan expressed a desire to return to their homeland.

Some of them showed readiness for immediate return, while others needed more time to think and make a decision after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

The UNHCR confirmed its readiness to support refugees who choose voluntary return by providing consultations on voluntary repatriation, noting that it has expanded transportation assistance to facilitate the return of refugees to Syria The UNHCR said that approximately 20,000 registered Syrian refugees returned to Syria in January 2025, bringing the total number of returnees between the fall of Assad in December 2024 and the end of January to around 25,500 people, with women and girls making up 44% and men and boys comprising 56%. It added that in January, it distributed $3.2 million in cash assistance for basic needs, benefiting 20,000 families from local communities.

The UNHCR confirmed that it continues to support refugees in Jordan. Jordan hosts approximately 1.3 million Syrian refugees, including 660,000 registered with the UNHCR, in addition to nearly 61,000 Iraqi refugees.
