Jaafari: Unilateral Coercive Measures Tool of Domination
NEWYORK, (ST) _ By a majority of 188 out of 193 countries, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the USA against Cuba while “Israel” was alone together with the US to vote against the resolution and three countries abstained from voting.
In a speech before the UNGA, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Dr. Bashar al- Jaafari stressed that “Israel’s being alone not to vote against the resolution reaffirms its dishonoring of the international law and support for the violations of international law and the illegal practices against the Arab people in Palestine and the occupied Syrian Golan heights.”
Jaafari renewed Syria’s condemnation of the US and the EU coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people, stressing the negative implications for these unilateral measures in preventing the Syrians from their basic needs such as food, medicine, medical equipment, fuel, agriculture supplies, and transport and communications equipment, and therefore these measures constitute a violation for the Syrian human rights besides the heavy damage inflected on the Syrian economy.
Jaafari indicated that these coercive unilateral US and EU measures imposed against some countries, including Syria, are a flagrant violation of the principles of international law and a tool by Western countries to dominate over other countries and peoples as well as a manifestation of collective punishment policies pursued by these countries.
The Need to Hold Countries that Adopt and Publish takfiri Ideas Accountable for Violating Women Rights
Meantime, in a speech during a meeting of the UN Security Council held under the title, “Women and peace and security” Dr. Jaafari renewed Syria call and support for sincere international effort to put an end to the crimes of terrorist organizations and the quest to find a mechanism to hold governments of countries that have a legal mandate on the issue of the deployment of terrorist or contribute ideas incitements, accountable.
“The ideas of these takfiri terrorists, including inferiority view of women and violations of women’s rights in the whole world as negative repercussions will not be limited to Syria,” Jaafari said, stressing the need to implement UN Security Council resolutions 1325, 2133, 2170 and 2178 to this end, in order to protect women rights and maintaining their due leading role in societies.
