(UNESCO) renews the accreditation of Syrian Trust for Development is as an organization for the next four years

Damascus, (ST) – In view of its role in preserving heritage and identity, developing and supporting this heritage, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) renewed the accreditation of the Syrian Trust for Development as a non-governmental organization for the next four years.

The Syrian Trust for Development clarified in a statement that SANA received a copy of it that, renewal of accreditation comes within the framework of the many years of sincere work, real experience and a broad awareness of responsibility towards society, its culture and history, describing this achievement by saying that, “it is honesty when it is performed honestly.”

 The Syrian Trust for Development plays its role as an accredited expert in the field of safeguarding and promoting intangible cultural heritage according to the executive directives of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage related to the procedures for accrediting non-governmental organizations, in addition to its work on reviving and rehabilitating archaeological sites and tangible archaeological heritage.

The Syrian Trust for Development plays its role in various Syrian geography, as it works directly in the governorates of (Damascus, Damascus Countryside, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Tartous, Sweida and Lattakia) and its offices and beacons in those governorates constitute platforms for the Syrian Trust’s work in the rest of the governorates (Al-Hasakah, Daraa, Raqqa, Deir Ezzor and Idlib).

In its statement, the Syrian Trust for Development indicated that its presence as an accredited advisory body at UNESCO contributes to refining its work with the local community in the field of preserving and reviving cultural heritage.

It has supervised the preparation of nomination files for elements of intangible cultural heritage to be registered on the lists of human heritage in the UNESCO.

It is worth noting that the Syrian Trust for Development was accredited for the first time by UNESCO in 2012, and the accreditation was renewed in 2017, due to the important role it played in safeguarding the intangible heritage, to renew its accreditation for the second time this year.

 The Syrian Trust for Development was elected in 2019 as Vice-President of the Non-Governmental Organizations Forum and was nominated within the group of Arab countries in the evaluation body, which consists of 6 non-governmental organizations and 6 experts in the field of intangible heritage to evaluate the files nominated by member states, the latest of which was the (Al-Qudud Al-Halabi) file.
