UNESCO delegation visits the archeological sites in Aleppo to assess damage caused by the earthquake
A delegation from the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has visited the old city of Aleppo with the aim of getting acquainted with the damage caused to the archeological sites in the city due to the recent earthquake.
The Syria Trust for Development said in a post on its facebook account that its team, as well as a mission from the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums, accompanied the delegation in its visit to assess the damage caused to the old city in preparation for specifying the priorities of urgent intervention to rehabilitate the damaged sites.
According to Syria Trust for development, this is the first visit by a UNESCO delegation since the terrorist war on Syria has begun, pointing out that the aim is to study funding some projects which need urgent intervention, such as restoration works in Aleppo citadel and the old markets to help protect this cultural heritage from extinction.
