Under the Patronage of President Al-Assad, the 78th Anniversary of the Internal Security Forces Day commemorated
Under the patronage of President Bashar Al-Assad, the Interior Ministry on Monday held a ceremony marking the 78th Anniversary of the Internal Security Forces Day which commemorates the martyrdom of the guards of the parliament who were killed in the French occupation forces’ attack on the Parliament on May 29th, 1945.
During the ceremony, Interior Minister Mohammad Khaled Al-Rahmoun made a speech in which he conveyed the congratulations and the feelings of love and appreciation of President Al-Assad to the officers and members of the Internal Security Forces.
He recalled the heroic stance of the guards of the parliament who refused to obey the orders of the French occupation to salute the French flag, and who were martyred in defense of this national stance after the French occupation gave orders to its forces to attack the Parliament.
On this occasion, the minister, accompanied by senior police officers visited the martyr’s monument in Al-Dahdah Cemetery in Damascus. He also visited the Martyrs’ Hall at the People’s Assembly (Parliament) where he and tge officers met its Speaker Hammoudeh Sabbagh who hailed the heroic deeds of the internal security forces who fought alongside the Syrian Arab Army and sacrificed their lives to defend Syria against terrorism.
Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Interior issued a statement marking the 78th anniversary of the Security Forces Day.
The ministry affirmed that the 29th of May, 1945 has been a turning point in Syria glorious history of struggle against colonialism. It was perfumed with the blood of our righteous martyrs who sacrificed themselves and their lives in order to raise the flag of the homeland on the entire territory and to defend the dignity and freedom of the Syrian people”, the ministry said.
On the 29th of May 1945, many Syrian policemen and gendarmes were martyred by the fire of the French colonialism for refusing to salute the French occupation flag when it was lowered from its mast over the building of the French army Staff opposite of the Syrian Parliament, the ministry clarified.
“This day is an important milestone in the history of the national struggle over a quarter century of fight against the French colonialism, which, since its occupying forces set foot on Syrian soil in 1918, was met with fierce resistance which turned later into revolutions across the country that led at independence.
