Under the patronage of Mrs. Asma al-Assad, honoring and crowning the winners of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad competitions for 2019-2020

Under the patronage of Mrs. Asma al-Assad, the Excellence and Creativity Commission honored today the winners of the first 15 places in the Syrian Scientific Olympiad competitions for 2019-2020 in mathematics, physics, chemistry, informatics and biology at the Palace of Conferences in Damascus.

The winners of the first 15 places in each specialty were crowned with laurel wreaths and were awarded with prizes, while the first three students were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals according to their classification. Members of the national teams who won the World Olympiad competitions for the summer of 2019 and the scientific committees and their trainers and supervisors were honored also.

 

In her speech during the honoring ceremony, Eng. Hala Al-Daqqaq, Head of the Excellence and Creativity Commission, stressed that the students’access to the final qualifying stage is an important achievement and success and a first step in the long road to excellence.

She noted that the Commission seeks in its future plans to develop training methodologies and practical qualification for students and to participate in world competitions that include new sciences such as the Nanotechnology and the Mathematical Modeling Olympiads, in which a team from the National Center of Excellence will participate next year for the first time and which will be available later in the coming years to all school students.

Daqqaq drew attention to the increasing prevalence of the Olympiad culture in the Syrian society and the effectiveness of voluntary training programs in some governorates.

For her part, the Director of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad in the Excellence and Creativity Commission, Nabog Yassin, highlighted the support provided to the Excellence and Creativity Commission by the Ministry of Education, the Revolutionary Youth Union, the Syrian Secretariat for Development, the Syrian Scientific Society for Informatics and the Syrian Virtual University.

In statements to SANA correspondent, the students who won the first places expressed their happiness with the results they have achieved, stressing the great responsibility they shoulder in order to achieve more successes and raise the name of Syria high in all competitions of the World Olympiad.

The honoring ceremony included screening films about the final qualifications of the Scientific Olympiad in addition to artistic “playing and singing” performances by the talents of distinguished students in the Olympiad and by the Symphony Orchestra.

Representative of the ceremony sponsor, Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam, in the presence of Deputy Ministers of Education and Higher Education, Scientific Research, Communications and Technology and directors of scientific and research institutions and centers, attended the ceremony.  Heads of a number of public and private universities, Head of theGeneral Directorate of Schools for the Children of the Martyrs, members of the Board of Trustees of the Excellence and Creativity Commission, and representatives of a number of Arab countries also attended the ceremony.
