Under President Al-Assad’s Patronage, the General Union of Farmers holds its 13th General Conference

Under the Patronage of President Bashar Al-Assad, the General Union of Farmers held its 13th General Conference under the title “Hope in Work…Hope in Agriculture”.

Assistant Secretary General of the Baath Arab Socialist Party Hilal Al-Hilal represented President Al-Assad at the event, which was attended by Speaker of the People’s Assembly Hammouda Sabbagh, Prime Minister Hussein Arnous and many state and party officials.

Head of the Farmers Union Ahmad Saleh Ibrahim said in a statement that with their steadfastness, the Syrian farmers managed to meet the need of the local markets of vegetables, fruits and various crops despite the repercussions of the terrorism that hit the country and destroyed the infrastructure of the agricultural sector, including irrigation canals as well as agricultural machinery and equipment.

He noted the presidential decrees that helped farmers return to production again and that eased some of the financial pressure.

“The farmers are experiencing difficult circumstances due to the weather conditions that affected Syria over the past two years and due to the scarcity of production requirements, particularly fertilizers and fodders, and thus, we spared no effort to reduce the impacts of these conditions through alleviating some of the financial burdens accumulated on farmers,” Ibhrahim clarified.

The conference will discuss reports relating to the work of the union and its projects for the coming stage. It will also include election measures.
