UN: We welcome the lifting of sanctions on Syria and we affirm our committment to supporting Syrians

The United Nations issues a statement regarding the United States’ announcement to lift sanctions on Syria:

-We welcome the recent announcement by President Donald Trump regarding the lifting of sanctions imposed by the United States on the Syrian Arab Republic.

-If implemented, this decision holds real potential for alleviating the prolonged suffering of millions of Syrians.

-Sanctions have for years hampered the humanitarian response and hindered the launch of early recovery efforts

-It is imperative that this development translates into tangible improvements in the lives of all Syrians.

-We affirm our firm commitment to supporting the Syrian people through principled humanitarian action and comprehensive recovery efforts.

-Lifting sanctions presents a renewed opportunity to help Syrians rebuild their lives in safety and dignity and move toward peace.
