UN Spokesman: De Mistura expected to submit new proposals on launching political settlement in Syria

United Nations – UN Spokesman said on Friday that the UN Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura is expected to submit new proposals at the end of July in an attempt to launch a political settlement for the crisis in Syria.

AFP quoted the spokesman as saying that de Mistura has to continue his consultations with the aim of setting his proposals on the way of supporting the Syrian parties in their efforts to find a political solution before the end of July.

 

He indicated that de Mistura will speak before the UN Security Council on July 28th.

At the end of a meeting with de Mistura on Thursday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said that de Mistura shares the same stance with Moscow on giving a top priority to combating terrorism in the current stage in Syria.
