UN Silence over US-Led Coalition’s Crimes in Syria IS No More Acceptable: Foreign Ministry

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates sent two letters to the UN Chief  and President of The Security Council on the massacres committed by the US-led international coalition against civilians in the Syrian provinces of Aleppo, Raqqa, Deir Ezzor and Hassaka under the pretext of fighting ISIS.

The ministry said that Syria urges the Security Council to assume it responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, stopping the coalition’s crimes against the Syrian people and forcing all countries to implement UNSC resolutions relations to fighting terrorism.

The ministry called on the UN and the Security Council to dissolve this illegal coalition which was established without the request of the Syrian government or the mandate of the United Nations.

The ministry’s letters said that under the pretext of fighting terrorism, the warplanes of the US-led international coalition have been perpetrating massacres against civilians in Syria on a daily basis and in a systematic way, particularly in the governorates of Raqqa, Hassaka, Aleppo, and Deir Ezzor, since its establishment in 2014 aiming to support the terrorist groups in these areas.

The coalition’s attacks have contributed to the spread of “creative” chaos, killing and destruction and they went in harmony with the terrorist organizations’ goals in destabilizing and destroying Syria and in prolonging the crisis in the service of Israel’s scheme in the region, the ministry said.

The ministry called for an immediate stop of the coalition’s crimes against the Syrian people and its systematic attacks on the sovereignty of the Syrian state, stressing that the silence of the United Nations and its member countries, that claim keenness on protecting civilians, over these crimes has become morally unacceptable.

The ministry affirmed that Syria condemns in the strongest terms the crimes of the international coalition against the Syrian civilians, infrastructure and public and private properties and urges the Security council to stop these crimes and enforce the implementation of its resolutions regarding fighting terrorism.
