UN: Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories are illegal

New York, (ST) – The United Nations envoy to the Middle East, Tor Wennesland confirmed that the Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories are illegal under international law. “They are a major obstacle to reaching a solutiom to the Palestinian issue”, he added.

Wafa News Agency stated that Wennesland pointed out during his briefing today before the UN Security Council that the Israeli occupation authorities demolished 58 Palestinian facilities in the West Bank, 6 in the occupied city of Al-Quds (Jerusalem), and an elementary school in the village of Ein Samia in the Kafr Malik plain, east of Ramallah, days before the start of the school year.

Wennesland called on the occupation to stop demolishing Palestinian property and displacing the Paleastinians from their homes. He pointed out that the humanitarian appeal to support the Palestinians launched by the United Nations and its partners has received only 30 percent of the total funding needed by UNRWA for the current year.
