UN Security Council renews its commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity

On October 8, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reaffirmed its commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria.

The UNSC said that the solution to the Syrian crisis should be achieved by peaceful solutions.

“The formation of the Syrian Constitution Committee, led and formed by Syrians, marks the beginning of the political process to put an end of the Syrian crisis according to the UNSC Resolution 2254,” the UNSC stressed in a presidential statement.

The UNSC expressed its support for holding the first meeting of the Syrian Constitution Committee in Geneva at the end of this month.

On 23 September, the United Nations’ Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the formation of the Syrian Constitution Committee.
