UN rapporteur: “Israel” is committing genocide in Gaza Strip

Madrid,(ST)- The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, stressed that “Israel” is committing genocide in Gaza Strip.

WAFA News Agency reported that Albanese said during a session held by the Spanish Parliament under the title of the role of the military embargo in peace building operations: I have devoted the past year to documenting the genocide committed by “Israel” in Palestine. She added: There is no doubt that “Israel” is carrying out genocide in Gaza, with intensive destruction operations.

Albanese clarified that the investigations she conducted in cooperation with 30 UN experts, in addition to the International Court of Justice’s decision issued last July calling for an end to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, clearly confirm that “Israel” is committing genocide that has left irreparable damage to the lives of Palestinians in the Strip.

Albanese stressed that compliance with the decisions of the International Court of Justice is mandatory for all members, and that continuing the arms trade with “Israel” which is committing genocide, is a violation of the UN Charter.

She indicated that imposing an arms embargo alone is not enough, and that the next step should be to sever all military, academic and diplomatic relations with “Israel”.

The Spanish Parliament held its session as part of a campaign launched by the organization “Rescue” to stop arms sales to “Israel” with the aim of preventing genocide against the Palestinian people.
