UN Organizations Should Act to End Unjustified Western Sanctions Imposed on Syrian People- Al-Mikdad
DAMASCUS, (ST)-The United Nations and its organizations should interfere to lift the unjustified unilateral sanctions imposed by western countries on Syria and which have had very bad impacts on the daily life of the Syrian people, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad has stressed.
Al-Mikdad made the remarks during his meeting on Wednesday with Jacob Kern, the new Regional Representative of the World Food Program (WFP).
The deputy minister received Kern’s credentials as the New WFP Representative in Syria, and discussed with him ways of enhancing cooperation to deliver food aid to people who need.
“The Syrian government provides all necessary facilitations to the WFP to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to terrorism-affected people who were displaced from their houses because of terrorist acts,” said al-Mikdad.
He pointed out that “the humanitarian aid provided by international organizations doesn’t exceed 30%…It is mainly the Syrian government that undertakes the task of providing humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people.”
On his part, Kern expressed his readiness to cooperate with the Syrian government in delivering food aid to as many people as possible. He hailed the big role played by Syrian concerned authorities to facilitate the WFP work.
