Occupied al-Quds, (ST) – UN officials called on the Israeli occupation authorities to release all Palestinian child prisoners held in their jails in light of the crisis caused by the outbreak of the new Corona virus.
The humanitarian coordinator in the Occupied Palestinian territories, Jimmy McGoldrick, head of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian territories, James Hennan, and the Special Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF in Palestine, Genevieve Poutin, in a joint statement today reported by Wafa News Agency, expressed their concern about the continued detention of the occupation authorities for Palestinian children.
The statement pointed out that since the beginning of the Corona crisis, the occupation authorities canceled all visits to the detainees and deprived the children of personal contact with their families and lawyers. This matter causes additional psychological suffering to them, stressing the need to protect them and release them immediately.
The occupation forces arrested 180 Palestinian children and minors suffering from psychological and physical torture despite the Palestinian continuous demands by the international community to move quickly and seriously to pressure the occupation authorities and obligate them to release all prisoners, especially children whose lives are threatened under the conditions in which they live, according to the WHO warnings and instructions to prevent corona virus.
