UN official: Famine in northern Gaza Strip is spreading towards the south

Roma, (ST) – Executive Director of the World Food Program Cindy McCain affirmed that the widespread famine in the northern Gaza Strip is spreading towards the south.

Wafa News Agency reported that McCain confirmed in a report published on the organization’s official website that the people of Gaza Strip are suffering from severe food shortages and food insecurity after seven months of war, according to what the program documented on the ground.

McCain expressed her hope that a ceasefire would be reached and that aid would begin to enter and feed the people of Gaza Strip, especially in the north, in a faster manner.

Humanitarian organizations have warned for months that the Israeli occupation’s aggression against Gaza Strip and the siege it imposes on it has pushed the Strip towards the brink of famine.
