UN Human Rights Council adopts resolution holding Israel accountable for human rights violations in occupied Palestine

RAMALLAH, (ST)- The UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has approved a draft resolution submitted by the State of Palestine calling for holding the Israeli occupation accountable for human rights violations in the occupied Palestinian Territories.

In a statement on Friday, Palestine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riad al-Malki said that 22 states voted in favor of the draft resolution, eight countries voted against it and 17 countries abstained.

Voting in favor of the resolution is very important at this critical time in which Israel is planning to annex parts of the West Bank with the direct support and encouragement of the current US administration, Al-Malki added, pointed out that Israel’s annexation plan is a clear violation of international laws and resolutions.

He criticized the countries that voted against the draft resolution, saying that they are practicing political hypocrisy, standing in the face of justice and on the wrong side of history and supporting the Israeli war criminals.

The Palestinian official urged all members of the international community to encourage compliance with international law and respect for international humanitarian law in the occupied Palestinian territories.
