UN General Assembly Renews Call on “Israel” to Withdraw from Occupied Syrian Golan

NEW YORK, (ST)-The majority of the United Nations member states have renewed their call on “Israel” to withdraw from the occupied Syrian Golan to the June 4th 1967 lines in implementation of the Security Council’s relevant resolutions.

The UN General Assembly adopted on Friday the resolution titled “the Syrian Golan” which is directly proposed before the Assembly under the item “the situation in the Middle East”. It reaffirmed the principle of the inadmissibility of acquiring others’ lands by force as per international law and the UN charter. It also reaffirmed that the Geneva convention on protecting civilians in the times of war is applicable to the occupied Syrian Golan.

 The General Assembly condemned Israel’s noncompliance with the Security Council resolution No. 497 issued in 1981, stressing that Israel’s decision, made on December 14, 1981 and through which Israel gives itself the right to impose its laws, mandate and administration over the occupied Syrian Golan, is null and void and it absolutely has no legal ground.

 The Assembly urged Israel to cancel this decision.
