UN: Israeli forced evictions in Jerusalem amount to war crimes

Geneva (ST): The United Nations has urged the Israeli occupation entity to end all forced evictions against Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem, warning that their actions may constitute war crimes.

Agence France-Presse quoted a spokesman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Robert Colville, as saying during a press conference in Geneva: “We call on Israel to immediately end all forced evictions, as well as to respect freedom of expression and gathering. This includes protesting against evictions and exercising the utmost restraint in the use of force. ”

Colville  emphasized that East Jerusalem is still part of the occupied Palestinian territories and is subject to international humanitarian law.”

He stressed that the Israeli occupation cannot impose its laws in the occupied territories, including East Jerusalem.

The Israeli occupation forces have stepped up their Judaization steps in occupied Jerusalem, the latest of which was the attempt to evacuate dozens of Palestinian families from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah, with the aim of giving them to settlers.

The occupation forces also arrested 15 Palestinians at dawn today who took part in the protest against what the occupation forces are doing in the neighborhood.
