DAMASCUS, (St) – UN envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura arrived yesterday in Damascus on his first visit since he was assigned by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, following the resignation of former UN envoy Lakhdar Brahimi.
The UN envoy was accompanied by his Egyptian assistant diplomat Azzedine Ramzi.
The UN announced yesterday that de Mistura tour includes other states in the region.
Syria had welcomed the appointment of Staffan de Mistura, as a special envoy for the UN to Syria, hoping that his approach is based on objectivity, impartiality, rules of the international law and the principles and objectives of the UN Charter, especially respect for national sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs and respect for the will and choices of the Syrian.
