UN envoy hopes Russia, US will cooperate on Syria

SOCHI, (ST)_UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen expressed hope on Tuesday that Russia and the new US administration would cooperate on the Syrian settlement.
 
“That is obviously my hope that we will see also good cooperation,” Geir Pedersen told journalists in reply to a question.
 
The UN envoy takes part in the 15th international meeting on Syria in the Astana format that takes place in the Black Sea resort of Sochi on February 16-17. On Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will meet with the UN special envoy in Moscow.
