UN Commissioner for Human Rights: Israel committed war crimes in Gaza

Vienna,(ST)- United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk confirmed that the Israeli occupation forces committed war crimes in Gaza Strip, describing the situation in the stricken Strip as terrifying.

Turk said in a statement: “There is clear evidence that Israel has committed war crimes in Gaza,” pointing out that the situation of the people in Gaza Strip is terrifying. He warned of the danger of implementing the Israeli occupation entity’s threats to invade the city of Rafah in the south of Gaza Strip.

Turk stressed that the people in Gaza Strip lack food and medicine and sufficient humanitarian support. He expressed his deep concern about the consequences of implementing the Israeli threats to invade Rafah, despite international appeals to prevent this from happening.

He explained that the Israeli war crimes in Gaza have severly affected 100,000 people. More than 28,000 people were killed, two-thirds of whom were women and children, in addition to the massive destruction of homes.

Turk pointed out that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) is indispensable for the people in Gaza.
