UN Chief Congratulates President Al-Assad on Syria’s Independence Day

DAMASCUS, (ST)- President Bashar Al-Assad on Sunday received a cable of congratulations from UN Chief Antonio Guterres on Syria’s Independence Day, expressing best wishes to the Syrian government and people.

In his cable, Guterres said that the world is experiencing a state of insecurity, pointing out that this year he launched an appeal for establishing peace in the world, because “the values of dignity, justice, progress and prosperity we are struggling for, as a humanitarian body, depend on peace.”

“On your country’s Independence Day, I realize that how diversity in the United Nations enhances our common action and humanity…I count on your country’s engagement and effective contribution to help build stronger UN organization and to press ahead with our joint action to guarantee peace, development and human rights to all,” Guterres added.
