UN Association of Syria: ‘Jewish Nation-State’ law breaches UN charter

The ‘Jewish-Nation State’ law adopted by the Israeli Knesset during a session in Jerusalem on July 19-2018 is an egregious violation of the charter of the United Nations, the president of United Nations Association (UNA) of Syria Dr. George Jabbour  stressed in a letter sent to the UN Secretary-General on Saturday.

The letter, obtained by the Syriatimes e-newspaper, said that Israel has been created in accordance with UN resolution but the new law [Jewish-Nation State] is a declaration of abandoning the UN charter.

“Those who are responsible for implementing the UN charter and related resolutions must condemn the new law,” the letter added, referring to the fact that UN inaction in implementing resolution No. 2334- adopted on 23 December 2016- leads to a further deterioration in the region, especially in the Israeli- occupied Palestinian territories.

The UN resolution No. 2334 states that Israel’s settlement activity constitutes a ‘flagrant violation of international law and has ‘no legal validity’. It demands that Israel stop such activity and fulfill its obligations as occupying power under the fourth Geneva Convention.
