Umayyad Mosque in Aleppo, Other Damaged Mosques, Churches Affected by Terrorism to be Reconstructed

ALEPPO– Minister of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed said on Thursday that under the directives of President Bashar al-Assad, the Umayyad Mosque in Aleppo and all mosques and churches that were affected by terrorism there will be reconstructed, SANA reported.

During a meeting with Islamic and Christian clergymen and official and economic figures at the Municipal Palace in Aleppo city, al-Sayyed noted that the Ministry is working on preparing a full file on the terror-inflicted damage caused to the Old City of Aleppo and the possible steps to start reconstruction and rehabilitation there in cooperation with Aleppo Governorate and the authorities concerned.

The Minister, Aleppo Governor and Secretary of Aleppo branch of the Baath Arab Socialist Party toured the Old City and inspected the damage caused to the archaeological and religious monuments there, with the visit including the Umayyad Mosque, the Citadel of Aleppo, al-Khassrawiyeh Mosque, the Arab Evangelical Church and the Maronite Church.

Al-Sayyed pointed out that the devastation they saw in the Old City expresses the true nature of the terrorists and their hatred for history, values of humanity, faith and the principles of religions.
